What direction will gardening take in the future? Gardening designs continually change to match our continuing changing lifestyles. The use of new up to date materials and audacious are currently the direction in which gardening is heading.
Currently gardening is one of the most fashionable and relaxing leisure pursuits in the world. This popularity stems from the ever popular gardening tv shows shown throughout the world. This leads to increased demands on gardening related products and services such as gardening books, gardening magazines, flower shows and garden centers that the general public cannot get enough of.
Gardening is not just restricted to those with suburban gardens. There are various other types of gardening such as a balcony, roof terrace and allotments. Plants, bulbs, seeds and bedding plants making up about a third of all gardening products sold today.
During the spring and autumn people make use of heaters allow them to enjoy their gardens. Greenhouses and garden sheds have become recreational centers for their owners. Also using outdoor lighting gardeners have come up with creative ways of lighting up a garden all year round.
Environment concerns have seen an increase in natural planting using native species, while organic and reduced maintenance methods of gardening are on the increase. Also recycled materials are increasingly being used in gardens.
One of the biggest challenges for gardening will be the increased lack of space for gardens as the worlds population grows. But by using specific gardening designs a these looks can be achieved in confined spaces.

The first people to start growing plants for ornamental purposes and not just to eat were the Romans.
Medieval gardens were used Europe but none have survived. The only historical information gathered from these gardens and plants used is from ancient paintings.
Tudor gardens were grown in the 15th century and they tried to capture classical artistic styles of ancient Rome.
Georgian and Regency gardens game into existence in the mid 18th century.
With the Victorian gardens came glasshouses and gardening tools.
Edwardian gardens tried to capture the styles of the countryside.
Modern gardens make use of concrete, paving, wood, glass, steel and a mixture of low maintenance plants.
